Claudia attended Nursing School at the Los Angeles County School of Nursing. After graduating in 2002, she made her way through the Med/Surg areas of the old General Hospital and eventually landed in her first patient care home: the Medical CMA. After a few years in the Medical CMA, Claudia began to look for new challenges. Fortunately for the Burn Center, Claudia decided to transfer to the Burn Service in 2006.
From the beginning of her service in the Burn Center, Claudia has been one of the bedrocks of our unit. Claudia is able to approach any challenging situation, either clinical or interpersonal, with a confident calm that is contagious to her co-workers. Claudia demonstrates the same confident, calm approach to her patient care. She is able to effectively care for the most clinically complicated patient, but she never forgets that there is a person under the bandages and maze of tubing who needs a compassionate voice and a healing touch. Claudia is amazing with families in crises and is able to help them to make sense of what is going on with their loved ones who have sustained burn injuries.
Claudia is a DAISY Nurse because of her clinical skills and her ability to open her heart to her patients and families in crisis.
Congratulations Claudia on receiving the DAISY Award! We are all very proud of you!

Claudia received us in the Burn Unit as we brought our 10-year-old daughter who suffered an extensive injury. Claudia stayed to attend to us, and that was very comforting. She had to go home a little late that day to make sure there was continuity of care for my daughter. The health instructions she gave were very clear. Claudia is a great example of what a compassionate nurse really is.
Claudia is truly a worthy recipient of the DAISY Award.
