A pediatric patient was in our hospital. Cindy was assigned to this patient and paid special attention to the patient the entire time she was in the ER. When it was apparent that the patient was not getting better with various treatments, the order came from the physician to admit the patient. Cindy went back in the room to recheck the patient and complete the vital signs. When she finished she noticed that the patient could not maintain her oxygen levels in an acceptable range and she notified the physician. The patient's color was not acceptable to Cindy and she felt the child may be too ill for our facility as the patient became exhausted trying to breath. She stated that she did not feel comfortable transporting this patient to the floor and the accepting pediatrician should come in and see the child. In addition, she asked for specific orders that she felt would improve her patients condition.

The pediatrician came in to see the patient and agreed with Cindy. They worked together to get the patient transferred to Roanoke. The patient was in the hospital in Roanoke for 3 days. Her outcome was good and she is now on new medication and has been seen by a pulmonologist.
