Cindy was my nurse when i came in to have my first child after 3 losses. i was nervous and cindy was with me through the night and took extremely good care of me. she answered all my questions without rushing even though OB was full capacity she made me feel like i was her only patient. she is compassionate and radiates a smile. she even stayed after her shift to help deliver my baby!

from the Gaylord Herald Times:
Hodges named DAISY Award winner

• Even though it isn’t her nature to seek the limelight, Cindy Hodges, RN, Maternal Child, took center stage last month as the second quarter DAISY Award winner.

The DAISY Award is a special honor celebrating the clinical skill and compassionate care given by Mercy Grayling nurses and two letters from recent patients placed the limelight square on her shoulders.

“It was very overwhelming emotionally, especially because I can’t think of anything better than to do what I do here at the hospital,” said Hodges, a mother of seven and grandmother of nine. “I was honored; I just enjoy my job so much.”

Hodges was surprised on the day she received the award, especially because she had been pulled to the emergency room unit to work. She was called back to Maternal Child where her colleagues, manager and two daughters were waiting for her with flowers, a statue and hugs of congratulations.

“Cindy is a very warm person who has impacted the patients in her care in many positive ways,” said Kathy Zelinsky, director of Professional Nursing Practice for Mercy Hospital Grayling. “Not only does she have good clinical skills, she has wonderful interpersonal skills, too.”

Nursing is not only Hodges’ passion, but her daughters’ as well. Both Amy Beerens, RN, Clinical Leader on 2 North and Carrie Hodges, RN, on 2 South, have followed in their mother’s footsteps.

As for Hodges, she says she can’t think of a better career -- or place -- for her daughters to have chosen.

“Everyone is great here,” she said. “From the administration to my peers, I have to say it’s a pleasure to come to work. It’s my saving grace.”

The DAISY award is given on a quarterly basis,to Mercy Hospital Grayling nurses.
