Christina White, RN in Step-Down and Stephanie Orndorff, RN in Case Management, went above and beyond on a Sunday to give a patient her dying wish. Christina was her primary nurse and coordinated all of the efforts while juggling a full team of patients. She never once allowed the patient and family to feel the stress that she was under to juggle her assignment and to continuously work through one issue after the next to make her wish come true. Christina never once stopped trying after she faced many obstacles and many would have given up. She utilized all of her resources until she made this wish come true.
Stephanie Orndorff was instrumental in this as well. She was the on-call Case Manager and she immediately jumped right in from home to support Christina in making this wish happen. She too never stopped or accepted "no" as an answer. She spent many hours making many phone calls to support Christina with a successful outcome. She is the one who ultimately found a Hospice nurse to accept the patient when it looked as though no one could. Stephanie never met this patient, but worked for hours to make her wish to happen.
Both of these nurses were committed to this patient's wish and weren't going to stop until it happened. It took many hours to coordinate everything, but when the patient and family left everything was in place and seamless. The patient made it home, was able to see her front door, and was surrounded by family as she wished.
Thank you both for all your efforts in making the impossible on a Sunday "POSSIBLE".
