A very sick patient wasn't able to make it out of bed to get to the bathroom in time. Christine stepped in to help the PCA and her patient in a trying situation.
"She instantly helped me without hesitation and reassured the patient that this was okay and things like this happen all the time. Although she reassured the patient, they were still very embarrassed by what was happening. What happened next truly almost brought me to tears. Christine got down to eye level with the patient and said, 'I don't want you to ever feel bad for something so small as this. I love my job and I am here to help no matter what.' Right then and there I witnessed the incredible bond that she makes with every patient."
Christine DeMott, who is new to her nursing career, was touched to receive her DAISY Award from members of nursing leadership and the Magnet Committee. "It is a privilege to care for patients at a vulnerable time in their lives, and I am so honored to accept this on behalf of all my coworkers who provide compassionate care day in and day out," she says of the honor.
