It's not every day that you see a colleague who really cares for her patients like their own family. One of which is Nurse Angel, as we call her. Aside from being keen on her nursing care and taking time to really assess her patients' conditions. From head to toe, she makes sure that she always makes the patients dance or laugh to make their stay in the hospital a pleasant experience. Patients would like to adopt her as their daughter even! When I was just 5 months in the unit we had an 80-year-old female patient who was post MVR years ago and was just admitted due to complications. She had a big grade 4 bedsore on the buttocks area which was dreadful to endure in each day of our routine of cleaning it and changing it with a new dressing. That patient's skin condition continued to dry up and improved and after 3 weeks she was discharged from our unit. Most days Nurse Angel was her nurse. That patient would be sad whenever Nurse Angel would be off duty. The patient obviously loved her most because of her extra care of making her feel happy whenever she felt pain or sadness due to her condition. As a way to say thanks, she gave her a big stuffed bear with a dedication note that stated how the patient and her family were grateful for having her as their nurse.
Her positivity always enlightens not just the patients she handles but also us, her co-workers, who love her presence. Anyone in the unit would agree that she is an Angel sent from above to make our workload lighter and an experience we would cherish for the rest of our lives as a nurse.
