We received a patient from a different unit and the patient had an out of hospital DNR. Once Christina saw that the patient had been intubated and was declining, she brought it to the attention of a physician. When the physician stated they were not comfortable making the patient a DNR because he did not know her, Christina spoke with the family and the family expressed wishes to make their mother comfort care. Christina brought it to another physician advocating for her patient and family "this is not what the patient wanted". She involved the charge nurse to make the last wishes of a dying woman happen. She stayed by the family as the patient passed and gave as much comfort as one can during a difficult time. She is a true patient advocate and showed this family what it is to be a nurse for Texsan.
