One of our favourite nurses so far at Sick Kids is Chris. She has a positive personality that can make any bad day better. My son was born prematurely at 26 weeks due to PPROM at another facility. And after a long 6+ month stay there, we were transferred to The Hospital for Sick Children's PICU. We've been facing the most tragic scenario, as we fear our son will not be able to recover from this bump in the road. We remain hopeful and nurses like Chris make that easier to do. Chris shares our compassion for N's well being. She is open and honest while showing empathy and complete integrity toward our family's situation. Chris is very approachable and easy to talk to, and a great listener. We really appreciated Chris taking little measures like getting a big bed to lay with our son, which made large imprints on our hearts. She made us feel valued when she listened to our suggestion. She agreed the benefits of being able to lay beside our son was indeed a great idea! It was a blessing, and with the team, we made it happen in just an hour or so. We initially got the idea from Palliative Care, but we all agreed the sooner the better, and our son's increases in saturation and blood pressure were the best indicators that we were right! Chris is a ray of sunshine even on the night shift! Her smile and disputation are just so warming, just what you could hope for in a time of need. All you need is love, and Chris has got it! Her wonderful spirits fill the room, and her laugh is contagious. She's family now. She has a great sense of humour which can take any awkward situation and make it a story you can tell at the dinner table!
