Chris is always a very caring and compassionate nurse. However, one day in ICU he really went above and beyond for a patient and family with whom he had formed a bond. An older gentleman was admitted to ICU and Chris was his nurse. Days went by and the family saw their husband, father, and brother continue to be more and more ill until they decided to focus on only making him comfortable. Every day they told me about how much they appreciated Chris's care. Finally, they decided tomorrow will be the day they remove the tube, which was breathing for him, knowing he would pass away. They gathered all family around and planned to remove the tube at 12pm. At 11:00am Chris came to ICU on his day off to see the patient and his family. They were so happy to have him by their side as they removed the tube and watched him take his last breath. Chris spent his time with them because he knew it would make a difference to the family when they needed it the most. He took the time to build up a strong relationship with a family in crisis. And this is typical for Chris. I can only hope for everyone I love and care for that someone like Chris comes into their lives.
