Charlotte is known to be exceptionally compassionate towards patients, treating them like her own family. She is loved by both patients and colleagues. A friend, a good listener, a resource person, and an all-round extraordinary nurse we are proud of. She is the kind of colleague you always want to be around, a very optimistic person with a golden heart. She does not mind working beyond her schedule or coming to help her unit.
She ensures all patients are well taken care of in her unique and special approach. She can easily put a smile on children and adults faces. She has her own distinct way to settle her stressed patients and colleagues. All patients are treated outstandingly well. In Hemodialysis we care for the same patients several times a week for years and she is there for them not only for their condition but as a friend and a loved one. Truthfully her being with patients makes a significant difference. There are times her patients will visit and seek her out. She is a role model, someone we are inspired by.
Charlotte identified numerous safety events that could have harmed her patients if not halted in time. A wrong dialyzer order was corrected, and harm was averted for a pediatric patient. Another good catch was incorrect extracorporeal blood volume prescribed for a pediatric patient that could have led to serious hypovolemic shock. A patient on pediatric hemodialysis was ordered dialysis with fluid loss of 1000ml as a plan and dialyzer F6, Charlotte checked the order and her calculation informed her the dialyzer was inappropriate for the patient and the circuit volume exceeded 5% of the patient blood volume. The order was altered, and harm did not reach the patient.
She excels as a patient champion and is a valued member of the team in Hemodialysis. As an experienced staff nurse, she repeatedly highlights her exceptional leadership skills and contributes to the success of the unit throughout many years. Takes on resource and charge nurse roles and performs both impressively. She is valued by the multidisciplinary team and works collaboratively with all disciplines. She is not only an advocate for patients but for nurses also. She contributes in unit projects, counting assisting to produce the resource manual. A quality person, a staff member to ask for advice or input on hospital policies. She happily shares her knowledge and skills with everyone and has mentored countless staff over the years. Thank you, Charlotte.
