Mr. Haggard is relatively new to the MHS PTSD program yet during his short time with us he has demonstrated a willingness to take on additional assignments, indicative of his attention to safety issues impacting veterans, staff, and visitors to the facility. For example, Mr. Haggard observed "near misses" when veterans or visitors were exiting the new parking deck which jeopardized the safety of persons leaving or entering the parking deck. Mr. Haggard suggested that a stop sign be strategically placed at the exit/entrance of the deck to avoid a vehicle accident. His recommendation was acted upon by Engineering Service (advocacy and excellence). Additionally, Mr. Haggard met with the Chief of Engineering Service to discuss a possible electrical shock "safety" hazard located near one entrance to the facility. This hazard was resolved as a result of Mr. Haggard's persistence in recognizing the hazard and following up with appropriate staff until this safety issue was corrected.
In recent weeks, Mr. Haggard's supervisor was approached by two veterans and a provider who each independently stated that he was such a great addition to our nursing staff in that he is kind, respectful, responsive and concerned about veterans and their problems and does whatever he can to address issues related to their care (respect, advocacy, commitment, excellence, integrity).
Mr. Haggard is well-liked and respected by his peers and supervisors for his dedication to the mission of the VA and OBVAMC. He is a wonderful addition to our nursing staff and a credit to the profession of nursing. Thank you, Mr. Haggard, for a job well done!
