Fenton Urgent Care had an elderly lady present to the employee entrance which is located in the back of the building. Cathy responded to the knocking and upon questioning, discovered that an elderly lady was trying to get to St. Anthony's hospital. The lady only wanted directions. Cathy provided her with a map and directions on how to get there, but quickly realized she was not familiar with the area or felt comfortable driving "in the city". Cathy knew that in order for the elderly lady to safely get to the hospital, she needed to assist her. Without hesitancy, Cathy informed her co-worker that she would drive her car and have the lady follow her up to St. Anthony's Medical Center. When leaving the Urgent Care, she noted that another person was in the vehicle, so at the red light and in the pouring rain, Cathy got out of her car and went back to verify the passenger was all right. She questioned where exactly she needed to go and was told they were going to the Emergency Department. Verifying neither needed immediate medical care, she continued to show them how to get the hospital. After traveling 40 mph, so as not to lose the following vehicle, they made it safely to St. Anthony's Emergency Department. Cathy made sure the patient was parked and safely in the ED before leaving.
The elderly gentleman passenger shook Cathy's hand and thanked her. The gentleman insisted Cathy take gas money, but as we all know, the quick witted Cathy informed him that was not necessary as she owned a gas company…LOL! We all loved that one…that's our Cathy, one of the best nurses out there.
