Recently, I had surgery at Holy Family Memorial. Lots of people have surgery at HFM, so what's the big deal. The big deal, for me, is that I also am employed here in a position that just about everyone knows me.
I don't remember a lot about my stay, but I do remember the kindness and compassion of the nurse on the day shift who took care of me. Generally being a quiet and reserved person (only kidding), I apparently was an "interesting" patient according to my daughter. I believe the word the nurse used was "squirrely" which my daughter said was a very nice term for my post-op behavior.
Cassandra was amazing. She had patience and kindness and yet was firm with her instructions. As I said, I don't remember much, but my family also felt that I was in good hands with Cassandra.
It's not often the nurse can truly look past who you are and your behavior to understand what you are going through. Thank you, Cassandra, for showing what a real nurse does and your dedication, not only to your patients but to HFM.
By the way, I am still waiting for the bourbon on the rocks I requested!
