When learning what The DAISY Award represents, it was clear to me that Cassie is a true DAISY Nurse. Cassie was hired in July of 2018 as a new grad RN. It was clear immediately that we had a star. Not only does Cassie have an incredible bedside manner and undeniable compassion for her patients, but she is also an incredibly strong clinician. She is able to balance the two as if she has been doing it all her life. Rather than list specific examples of excellence, I have attached Strong Stars and e-mails from patients and co-workers below.

During a very stressful situation that lasted basically the majority of the 8-hour shift I was on, Cassie handled herself very well and handled the situation outstandingly. She knew when to ask the providers for certain orders and got her resources involved as quickly as possible. While this situation played out, she was very attentive to the family's needs as well and made sure that they were being kept in the loop with everything going on and made sure they were being cared for as well. Thank you for being such a great nurse on our unit, your hard work and compassion do not go unnoticed!

Cassie worked so hard to make sure my comfort level was being met adequately. This was important because I was in so much pain. Thank you, Cassie!

I just wanted to express my appreciation (and that of Dr. P) for the great teamwork that was displayed today by Cassie and the day crew. We had a patient that the floor team asked us to evaluate that initially was relatively stable. Unfortunately, when I returned with Dr. P after the initial evaluation, we realized that she would not be safe for transfer to the ICU for intubation and was now actively herniating. Cassie and the rest of the team were calm, organized, and excellent communicators while we prepared the patient for emergent intubation. Dr. P was especially thankful for the team's excellent work today and remarked to me that it was one of the smoothest emergent procedures with which he has been involved. I tend to visit the unit when a patient is in trouble, but it's always a pleasant experience because of the positive interactions with staff.

This week Cassie took a patient outside. The poor man hasn't seen sunshine in 70+ days. She also bought him coffee and a cookie. I thought it was really nice of her to go above and beyond; you can tell she really cares about her patients!
