I WOULD LIKE CARRIE PIKE RN AT RUSH MEDICAL CENTER IN CHICAGO TO GET A DAISY AWARD. CARRIE WAS MY DAY NURSE IN THE MOOD DISORDER UNIT THERE STARTING SEPT 30TH - OCT 11TH, 2010. I WOULD ALWAYS SEE HER SMILING FACE EVEN AFTER A NIGHT OF NO SLEEPING AND ASKING ME HOW DID I DO LAST NIGHT THAT IS ONE OF THE MAIN ISSUES WHY I WAS BROUGHT INTO THE HOSPITAL I AM BI POLAR AND WAS IN A MANIC PHASE I DID NOT SLEEP FOR 3 DAYS STRAIGHT DAY AND NIGHT OF NO SLEEP IS NOT VERY PRETTY. CARRIE NEVER TREATED ME LIKE A NUT CASE AND BELIEVE THERE ARE NURSES WHO WORK ON THOSE TYPES OF UNITS WHO NOT ONLY THINK THEIR PATIENTS ARE CRAZY BUT STUPID TOO. THE WORLD HAS A STIGMA ABOUT PEOPLE WITH MENTAL ILLNESSES AND EVEN SOME OF THE NURSING PROFESSIONAL ON THE GUIDE LINES ON TREATING PSYCHIATRIC PATIENTS, I JUST THINK THEY JUST DON'T GET IT OR UNDERSTAND ESPECIALLY THE WORLD IN GENERAL BUT ALSO PSYCHIATRIC NURSES ON THE UNITS AND GENERAL NURSING STAFF JUST DON'T GET IT SORRY TO SAY I AM ONLY SPEAKING FOR WHAT I THINK, THEY TALK TO YOU SOMETIMES LOUD I AM NOT DEAF JUST BI POLAR. I KNOW THAT PSYCHIATRY HAS COME A LONG WAY BUT IT IS STILL MISUNDERSTOOD. I AM A SEASONED PATIENT BEEN TO A LOT OF PSYCH UNITS IN MY LIFE TIME OF BEING BI POLAR FOR 30 YEARS.
I GOT UP ONE NIGHT VERY SICK AS I HAVE A FIB TOO MY HEART RATE WAS UP TO 150 WITH A PACEMAKER THE NIGHT SHIFT RIGHT BEFORE THE CHANGE GOT ME READY FOR TRANSFER I WAS BEING WHEELED TO THE MEDICAL SIDE OF THE HOSPITAL TO A HEART UNIT. I SAW CARRIE COME IN FOR FOR HER SHIFT AND LOOKED WORRIED AND I LOOK SCARED REALLY SCARED SHE LEANED OVER HELD MY HAND I WAS CRYING AND TOLD HER I'M NOT COMING BACK SHE SAID YES "YOU ARE COMING BACK" DON'T THINK THAT WAY YOU ARE AND STAY CALM THAT THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF MY HEART AND I WOULD BE OK. NOW 4 LITTLE WORDS "YOU ARE COMING BACK" MADE ME RELAX CAUSE AT THAT POINT I WAS CONVINCED I WAS GOING TO DIE. I WAS HAVING V TACHYCARDIA WHICH I HAVE NOT HAD AT THAT POINT WITH MY HEART I WAS SO SCARED I WASN'T GOING TO LIVE. I KNOW YOU MIGHT NOT THINK THAT WOULD BE THE CASE FOR A DAISY AWARD BUT IT'S THE WHOLE PACKAGE DEAL OF CARRIE BEING A NURSE ALWAYS EXPLAINING MEDICATION TO ME HAVING PATIENCE ANSWERING ANY QUESTION I MIGHT HAVE ABOUT THEM, LENDING A SYMPATHETIC EAR WHEN I NEEDED TO TALK TO SOME ONE SHE GAVE ME TONS OF TLC. CARRIE DID NOT TREAT HER J O B JUST LIKE , SHE TREATED ME WITH RESPECT AND DIGNITY AND SHE REALLY CARRIED AND YOU COULD FEEL THAT RADIATE FROM HER. THAT'S WHY I WOULD LOVE TO SEE CARRIE BECOME A DAISY AWARD RECIPIENT AND 8S STAFF AS A WHOLE GET A CINNY ROLL AS MY CHILDREN SAID WHEN THEY WHERE LITTLE CALLED IT CAUSE KUDOS GOES OUT TO THE UNIT AS A WHOLE THEY WHERE SO CARING DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME IN MY LIFE. PLEASE ACKNOWLEDGED YOU RECEIVED THIS TO MY E MAIL.
THANK YOU CARRIE YOUR A WONDERFUL NURSE AND HAVE LEFT FOOT PRINTS ON MY HEART AND A BAD MEMORY OF MY HEART SCARE WITH A A LITTLE BIT OF A SMILE:)
RESPECTFULLY,
ANN GILLIO
PS. COULD THE STAFF SAVE ONE FOR DR.DANIEL ROSENTHAL HE WAS SO KIND AND GENTLE TO ME AND I HAD NEVER MET HIM PRIOR TO THAT HOSPITAL STAY I WILL NEVER FOREVER FORGET HIS KINDNESS HE SHOWED TOO. THANKS
