Late in the afternoon, an elderly man came to the PMC front desk looking for our pharmacy. Carol spoke with him immediately; she could see he was clearly frustrated and distressed by his situation. His mother is in a nursing facility and her usual mail delivery of blood thinner had not arrived as scheduled and she was completely out. The man went over to his mother's PCP and they were closed for the day.
The man was frightened and confused by the situation. He desperately wanted to get his mother's medication but nothing was working for him. Carol called the nursing facility charge nurse for this gentleman and found out who was on call for his mother's PCP. She facilitated an arraignment where a small amount of the medication was called into the pharmacy this man is familiar with. He was then able to pick it up and take it to his mother. The man was so relieved to have this taken care of.
Carol's nominator was so moved by this act of generosity, compassion and kindness she showed for an unknown man and his mother that she felt compelled to write this nomination. Carol is able to easily navigate the confusing world of on-call physicians and calling in prescriptions. This is a task that can overwhelm the inexperienced.
