My husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer - it hit us like a train. His disease is progressing rapidly and causing terrible pain and complications that ended us up in ICU. When we first entered we met this very petite, redhead with an English accent. She introduced herself as Carol. Immediately Carol explained everything she was doing and always included my husband and going beyond keeping him as comfortable as possible with much compassion. If you know my husband, he has quite a sense of humor and Carol stayed right up there with him and was very witty herself. Carol would be walking in with ice chips before I would even have to ask. Always very thoughtful asking me if I needed anything. There were times I had to go home to take our dog out (which Carol said I could bring the dog also). I felt very secure in leaving knowing Carol was there and my husband was in good hands which was a load off of me. Carol said I could call her anytime, and I did, and she explained what was going on in detail and helped me understand. My husband felt very comfortable and open in talking with Carol.
I could write more but the bottom line is Carol Smith has a position where she may not see the beginning or the end of someone's life, but she did have the middle of ours, which was a storm of emotions, and she seemed to be our angel. Even though Carol was not able to change the diagnosis for my husband, Carol did let us see a rainbow that will last forever in our hearts.
