First, every single nurse and the entire care team for C were absolutely fabulous and we received the best care. When C was born he was unable to breathe on his own. Throughout the next couple weeks of testing, we found out that he had no gag reflex, he was unable to swallow, his tummy wasn't working and he was having seizure activity. Carly took care of C a few times and then we requested her to be C's nurse on the days when she was at work. The love she had for our little boy was very evident in the great care she gave to him. She would talk to him and love on him, and just has a heart of gold. Eventually, we had to make a decision to stop treatment. Carly worked that day and told us that even if she hadn't been scheduled to work Memorial Day, she would've come in to be with us. She was right beside us, helping us through the worst day of our lives. Respiratory came in and removed his vent about 11:20. We held C in our arms until his heart stopped beating at 12:31 pm. We got to give Clay a bath and wash his hair. Carly helped us with all of this, she made footprints for us, and gave us a keepsake box of things. When it was time for us to leave she said, "I promise I will not leave him alone in this room. I will stay by his side until transport gets here and then I will personally carry C in my arms and go with transport to meet the mortician in the morgue."

This gave us so much comfort to know C wouldn't be alone. Carly was truly an angel to us during the most difficult time we have ever experienced. We will always remember her for her love and kindness.
