I have worked with Carl for many years and it's hard to give "just" one example of what a caring and compassionate nurse Carl is. I have seen many frightened, tearful children come into the ED and after having Carl as a nurse, they almost always leave cheerful, laughing, bouncing, and joking with Carl. I have seen him do everything in his power to make sure that all of our patients are getting what they need, not just in the ED but after they go home or get admitted. I am so proud of how Carl takes care of each and every patient and also of each and every family. Carl treats people the way he would want his own family treated. His is truly one of the most caring nurses I have worked with in my 30+ years of nursing. Carl takes the time to sit down and not just talk to the parents, but actually listen to what they feel their child needs. Parent LOVE Carl as do ALL of his patients.

Carl is a great team player. During some famous Nebraska blizzards, Carl has volunteered to take his mighty Yukon vehicle out in the storm to pick up employees and bring them to work so that the children presenting in the ED still get the best care possible. Carl is a man of honor and integrity. He always puts his patients and families first and always does so with a smile. He also knows how to comfort families when it is needed and offers a shoulder to cry on, a hug, or just someone who genuinely cares.

It is truly an honor and a privilege to work beside such a great nurse, great co-worker, and just a very caring individual. He is truly who I think of when I think of what a DAISY Award Honoree represents.
