At shift change, Candy came in to introduce herself. She was a bright light with an infectious smile and demeanor that would raise anyone's spirits.
My husband was in excruciating pain after a reconstruction surgical procedure of his left leg with a fractured right arm. We were into day two of pain with absolutely no relief. He was on so many narcotic medications that were making him extremely ill. He was nauseated, dizzy and hallucinating. Candy came in and aggressively accessed his situation. I expressed the importance of stopping the narcotic drugs and finding a replacement that could give him immediate relief, Candy was right on it. She amazingly put together a plan. She worked magic by assembling a combination of meds and calculated a time schedule for each dosage. She got him comfortable and hopeful that relief was coming soon.
At 10:00 pm after being with my husband for days around the clock and winks of sleep he demanded I go home to get some sleep. After debating with him, I gave in and it was only because Candy made me feel so at ease that he was in good hands that I went home. Before leaving Candy offered her direct phone number and told me to call her at any time I need to. She also assured me she would call me immediately should something arise.
At 12:26 am, I received a call from Candy with her explaining a development of my husband's oxygen level dropping to a low level of 80. She explained her detailed assessment of the situation and what she was going to do. She immediately orchestrated the doctors, arranged a CT scan of his chest and kept my husband and me fully aware of what was going on and what was going to take place. She said she would call me back with the results of the CT scan. Soon, she called me with the bad news that he had a blood clot in his lung. I immediately made my way back to CDH. When I arrived, I found Candy with my husband caring for him as if she was caring for her own family member. Candy explained everything to us in great detail and in a language we could understand. She was amazing. Candy lead this process with her excellent nursing.
Candy did not just do her job. Her passion, instinct, along with her knowledge and investigative mind led her to passionately save my husband's life. Through all her actions it was clear they were led by her heart and faith. We are so grateful to our sovereign Lord who has put Candy in our path to take care of his son. That's what an Angel is, and Candy truly is an Angel. We will be eternally grateful for all she has done for us.
We believe Candy has a gift for caring for people. She will always be a bright light to us and we will always hold her in our hearts and prayers.
