As a result of a traffic accident, my mother and father were hospitalized from January 26-February 18th in the Surgical/Trauma Intensive Care Unit. We experienced many caring skilled nurses but one in particular deserves the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. When my mom was nearing respiratory failure, she began having crazy dreams, illogical thoughts and was in extreme state of fear for things that to her were real but in fact were part of the crazy dreams.

Caitlin Wise was my mom's nurse one particular night. My first impression of Caitlin that night began with her gentle touch. Caitlin bathed my mom in the most gentle way and with modesty and dignity. When she asked my mom if there was anything else she needed, my mom told her prayer. Caitlin bowed her head and prayed with my mom. She prayed all the things my mom needed to hear. It brought me to tears.

Later in the night, my 72 year old mom had a dream that she might be pregnant and losing the baby. Caitlin came in and reassured my mom in her calm and gentle reassuring way that she was not pregnant and that this was not something she needed to be worried about. While I was not able to calm my mom down, Caitlin could.

Caitlin Wise provided my mom care that was beyond my expectations. She provided for my mom's physical and emotional needs in a dignified and compassionate manner.
