Caitlin was one of a number of nurses who attended me during a protracted stay while I anticipated an appropriate organ match. During that time, I was on an ECMO machine and faced a number of challenges while waiting. Her unique efforts centered around her instinctive ability to anticipate my personal needs as well as the medical requirements of my individualized care, due to a protracted stay on ECMO. She possessed a quiet and calm demeanor that helped to diffuse a few episodes when my medical condition destabilized. She portrayed a unique ability to comfort and soothe frazzled nerves and personal fears. She had an almost uncanny ability to sense what needed to be done before anyone and provide the treatment or care that was required. This included such things as personal care, including a manicure/pedicure. When this service was researched and found to be prohibitively expensive, she volunteered to perform the service personally and did a professional and caring job (even painting flowers on a few of my nails-quite chic!). Her cheerfulness and enthusiasm for her work was a joy to experience on the few occasions I had her on rotations. I am eternally grateful for her efforts on my behalf.
