The patient went into the Cath lab for a routine ablation. While in, she began to bleed and coded. The Cath lab team jumped into action and Bryan was the person who performed CPR.
Bryan......
Refused to give up
Performed so amazingly that the patient has no deficits at all
The patient had no broken ribs or bruising
Bryan worked so hard at CPR that he actually got physically sick afterward- for a few days in fact
Upon the patient regaining rhythm, the family was notified and this is where I was brought into the loop because the patient is the mom to two of our EDTs. The boys found me shortly after seeing their mom and informed me they came in to "say goodbye". They were told what happened during surgery, and it was unknown if she would survive, or how she would be once she woke up from being coded so extensively.
It wasn't until later that week this patient woke up perfect!! This is when we knew she is a miracle! This is when we knew Bryan's expertise in his role made such an incredible difference. Seeing the boys and family throughout the week and their spirits lift as their mom improved was awesome!! The nurse they all kept praising was Bryan, not only for his efforts to save the patient but also for his compassion to the family as she recovered. He brought such positive energy every time he came to see the patient and family, even before she patient woke up. The support he showed the family helped them through the darkest time, this is what the family consistently praised him for as much as his skill while performing his role.
The patient and family have said several times how Bryan is her hero. A few weeks ago I overheard him say the patient is HIS hero; for making him see every patient as a new opportunity, to never give up, and always do better!!
Thank You, Bryan, for your expertise and compassion and saving this life!!
