Both Vivien Lamb and Brooke Schneider went above and beyond when caring for a patient that had no access to running water. The patient arrived for an outpatient procedure and upon assessment, Vivien learned that the patient had not had any running water for 3 years. He received two pails of water per week from a neighbor and that is what he used to cook with. She noticed how disheveled his appearance was and immediately began trying to figure out a way she could get him a shower before he left.
Brooke heard Vivien trying to plan for this man to get a shower and went down to our gift shop and purchased several packs of underwear and t-shirts. She also purchased a shaving kit. She left after her shift was over and shortly after we received a phone call to come down and help her get all of the things she got from Wal-Mart. She purchased several gallons of water as well as bottled water, pajama pants, house shoes, and just numerous things that she felt this man needed.
During this whole thing, Brooke kept saying that she didn't want the patient to know that it was her that purchased the items and to just tell him that we found them and thought he could use them. She left that day saying she was going to figure out a way to get his well fixed so he could have water. Both of these nurses did not hesitate to go above and beyond to ensure that this man simply felt human again.
