A 33-week pregnant patient presented to labor and delivery with severely elevated blood pressures and abdominal pain. She was in the beginning stages of DIC complicated with severe pre-eclampsia. She was taken immediately to the OR for a stat C-section because they were unable to get fetal heart tones. The baby had unfortunately passed away due to placenta abruption. The mother received several units of blood and was transferred to CCU. Brooke stayed with the patient to help the nurses in CCU with her during this critical time. The patient was so sick and all she wanted to do was see her beautiful baby girl who had just passed away. Brooke and two other nurses were able to get the infant cleaned up and dressed in a special outfit so she could be taken down to be with her mother in CCU. Brooke remained at the mother's bedside and with her excellent clinical assessment skills, she was able to determine the patient was experiencing complications and needed to be taken into the OR for further treatment. The patient was very fortunate to have Brooke as her nurse that night. Brooke is a wonderful, compassionate nurse. We are so blessed to have her as a part of our labor and delivery team.
