It has become very apparent to the staff on this unit that Brock has a "Heart of Gold". Brock is a fabulous nurse and always strives for excellent care.

We recently had a patient on 4SE who had been on the unit for well over a month. His situation was heartbreaking and his care that was required was quite in depth. After spending a month on 4SE, the team decided it was in his best interest to move him to 4Flex. This unit has a lower staff-patient ratio, and is targeted for closer observation. Brock was assigned to this patient the first night he was moved. The patient was a little unsure of his new surroundings, but Brock made him feel more than comfortable. Brock made him feel like he had a friend.

I watched Brock spend countless hours with the patient just sitting at his bedside, talking to him about "normal stuff", learning about the patients life, his concerns for his family, as he knew he did not have long to live. Brock saw more than just a patient in a bed, he saw a man that was worried about his family and their security. He saw a man that just wanted to be able to provide simple things for his wife and daughter. Brock provided him with a sense of security and dignity in his last days here on earth. Brock took time on his day off to come up and sit with the patient, he brought him several magazines and flowers, just to brighten his day. When the patient became unresponsive, Brock sat in the room and held his hand.

I believe that Brock went above and beyond to provide this man reassurance and peace as he knew he was facing a very fearful and terminal situation.
