I recently gave birth to my son at Frye and Brittney was one of the nurses that cared for me and my family. From pre-op to discharge, I cannot say enough great things about all the staff that participated in my care.
They say that nurses make the worst patients. As a nurse myself, I think I would have to agree. I believe this is due in part because nurses want to be in control. We have a wide scope of responsibility and the best way to ensure good outcomes for our patients is to maintain that control and anticipate problems and find solutions before they even become problems. So, when things did not go exactly as I had planned for the birth of my son I had to let go of that control and rely on my nurse to take care of me and my child.
This change of plans was difficult for me and had it not been for Brittney the story of my son's birth would be very different. From the moment I went into the OR, I remember Brittney being present, always attending to me. Even though she may not have realized how important her presence was, I knew she was in the room, talking to me, reassuring me and intervening when needed. I hope she knows how much this meant to me. When it was determined that I would be sedated for the C-section, she took care of my husband, reassuring him and even took our camera to capture pictures of the moment that neither I nor my husband would ever see, the moment our child would be born. She did not have to do this, but as an exceptional nurse, it was her natural instinct to make sure she did all that she could to ensure we had a positive experience.
Brittney, I'll never be able to give in return what you have given to me. Thank you for answering my endless questions, even when I had asked them before. You never looked tired, or impatient, or frustrated. You always acted as though there's nowhere else you would rather be. Thank you for your skill; you are pretty awesome at what you do. Thank you for whispering in my ear to slow down my breathing in the OR. Thank you for managing my pain and nausea. Thank you for taking pictures of my sweet miracle. Thank you for bringing my baby for skin-to-skin contact. You are an integral part of my positive outcome. I will never forget you, in fact, our story can never be told without mentioning you. Please know how much you are appreciated.
I am so proud to be a part of the Frye family and I am even more proud of our staff. We are blessed to have Brittney Dixon on our team. Thank you again, I will never forget how you took care of my family and the way you made me feel. You are an exceptional nurse.
