Bridget always does “the right thing” for her patients and families. We had a patient that had an involved neck surgery at the age of 83. His wife was diabetic and very dependent on her husband for assistance. He actually refused to have his surgery unless she could stay with him in the hospital. The doctor promised them that she could stay with him. We made sure we accommodated her needs. She suffered from stress incontinence and Bridget actually took the wife’s soiled clothes home and washed them for her and brought them back the next day.

She made sure that the wife was eating and actually ordered extra food so she could eat with her husband. The patient’s wife walked with a cane and needed a little assistance getting around, Bridget made sure she could get out to the bathroom and back again. This husband and wife have been together for over 60 years, have lost their son to cancer, and have a daughter that is in a nursing home due to a tragic accident. Bridget went way above and beyond to keep them together. Bridget actually took care of both the patient and his wife. They were so grateful for her kindness and generosity. She even made sure that social work was consulted to see if there were any resources available to assist them when they went home, during his recovery.

Bridget exemplifies the image of the “Beaumont Nurse” and is an exceptional individual.
