We had a patient in SICU who was very sick and so concerned about her tiny dog "Baby". She had no family to watch over her while she was admitted. Our HUC talked to the patient for hours and tried to calm her nerves. She was able to build a relationship with the patient and trust and agreed to go to the woman's house to care for her dog. The HUC asked one of our RNs if she and her husband would go with her to the woman's house after working a long night shift to let the dog out, feed her, and play with her. Bridget, her husband, and the HUC went to the woman's house and did just that. They also took pictures of "Baby" to show the woman when they came back to work that night. Bridget, with the patient's permission, took "Baby" to her house while the woman was still an inpatient. She cared for "Baby" like she was her own and the woman was so happy and grateful for both the HUC and Bridget.
