I would like to say that all the nurses I came in contact with on this med-surg floor were all outstanding. One nurse, however, stood out more than the others. I had been in severe pain and was very ill for 4 days prior to being transferred to Essentia. By the time I arrived here I was exhausted and scared. I spent a total of 6 days here on the med-surg unit. Having multiples setbacks and bumps in the road, I was not only very sick but also feeling defeated and extremely homesick. I live two hours away.
Brianna was my nurse on several different shifts. She made my stay here brighter and much more comfortable. I am a nurse myself and know how busy the floor can be, but Brianna never appeared to be rushed or that I was using too much of her time. Her confidence in her work was comforting. Her compassion was soothing. Her patience made you feel as if I was her only patient. She went above and beyond always. As a 43-year-old nurse, I have heard countless times how we "eat our young" I always try to learn from the younger nurses. By watching her care for me this week, I will definitely be reminding myself, "be more like Brianna" while caring for my own patients.
