Briana O'Connell has demonstrated the core values of the DAISY Award. She was one of the first nurses our daughter had when we came to CHOP. As a new mom still being in shock of having our daughter C early, Briana was very sensitive to this. She took the time to explain things in ways we could understand. She would explain things repeatedly until we understood them. Since she spent many consecutive shifts with C, she was able to notice things that were patterns or unused behaviors.
Briana was able to express to the doctors what she witnessed or trends she saw and was able to recommend what treatments to go with. Briana not only was very knowledgeable about her profession, she made it about the family. As our first child, we didn't know much about how to care and she worked with us to teach us. She always has a smile on her face and always encouraged questions. The hands-on care she provided to C we could truly see how much she cared.
Briana was so tender, attentive and compassionate. Her kindness and warm heart really showed through. Even on days when she wasn't assigned to C, she would come to check in on her and us the parents. She encouraged us to take care of ourselves! When we would take a day off and knew Briana had C we were able to relax knowing the love and care that our daughter was getting. Briana even helped with C's first Father's Day gift. She helped me brainstorm and encouraged me to go for the ideas we came up with. We are so grateful that we met Briana and she was there to help take care of our daughter. As a first-time mom, I can't express what it meant to me to have had Briana. She is wonderful and deserves to be recognized for her outstanding care, communication skills, and commitment to excellence.
