Brett is a calm, compassionate caregiver no matter the stress level of his surroundings. He can manage multiple tasks and complete them with a patient-centered focus. Brett was spending the night in the hospital due to the weather. During this time, a critically ill patient was being admitted to CCU as a code chill. The staff needed assistance in setting up the equipment and requested his help at 2 am. Brett assisted and did so without complaint.
A snowstorm was predicted. Brett posted on a secret Facebook group that if no staff called in for their shift, he would do a snow angel. No staff called in and Brett made a snow angel as promised.
Brett is a positive influence on our staff. Always willing to help. A staff member sent this letter about Brett:
"I had to call Brett for help starting an IV on a patient of mine. He is always willing to help. He came to the room, talked to the patient for a few minutes to make them more comfortable with someone new coming in to poke them. By the end of the encounter, the patient was smiling and laughing with Brett and thanking him for getting the IV when I couldn't."
On a personal note, my sister was visiting from out of town and became ill. Her husband brought her to the ER with severe dehydration and in need of fluids. She has always been a difficult stick. When I went to check on her, I found Brett in the room trying to gain IV access using ultrasound. He is very calm, explains what is happening, and is soft-spoken when interacting with scared patients and that is just what my sister needed. He was able to calm her after being poked several times and she and her husband told me he made a difference in their visit and they were lucky he was there for them. Thank you.
