One morning, as Brandy made rounds on her patients, she received a special request for assistance. One of her patients had cancer and his health was deteriorating. While his wife was asleep, he shared with Brandy that his pain was worse and asked if she could "put a little extra in his cup" that morning. He also asked her if she could write letters to his sons from him. Without hesitation, Brandy stopped and reassured him that she had time to write the letters and take care of his increased pain needs. His wife was having a hard time dealing with the fact that her husband was getting worse. After taking care of his requests, Brandy talked to the physician about the need for a heart to heart discussion about the possibility of Hospice care. The physician listened to Brandy and was very gentle in his delivery of information. Thanks to Brandy pausing and listening, this patient was able to communicate with his wife and children things he wanted to share and had peace about something that had been weighing heavily on his heart. What took a small amount of time for Brandy will last a lifetime for this family. What a treasure! God bless you, Brandy, for the love and kindness shown to this sweet family. It will never be forgotten.
