My newborn daughter was admitted to the RNICU for NAS. Luckily, she was transferred to Sparrow from another hospital. She was dehydrated, her hemoglobin was high, and she was at risk for having GBS. I knew she would be going through withdraws but I wasn't expecting a feeding tube, IV antibiotics, and IV saline. Brandi was C's nurse upon arrival. Brandi took the time, on the phone, to answer all my questions and to chat with me. She was always rocking C or holding her until she fell asleep. Every time I knew she was C's nurse, I felt instantly at ease and knew my daughter would be cared for as if I was there. It melts my heart to know that a stranger took such a liking to my baby and gave her love and attention when she needed it most. I was also nervous about feeling judged and mistreated due to being on methadone and putting my baby through withdraw but Brandi never judged me. In fact, it was the total opposite. She gave me encouragement and assurance that I had done the right thing. I am so grateful we chose Sparrow. Not only has the care been above par but I met an amazing woman who is exceptional at her job and genuinely has compassion and love for babies who need it the most. It was refreshing to find someone who was non-judgmental and who understood the severity of what my baby was going through. She never once sugar coated anything and, was honest and forthcoming with C's treatment and future treatment plan. Brandi truly understood how much pain and suffering both C and I felt. I am so thankful to her for being supportive and allowing me to vent when I needed to. I truly appreciate and respect all she did.
She is an amazing nurse and beautiful person as well as a great advocate for mothers who are or have suffered from addiction.
I am so glad she was C's nurse; the process was a lot easier with her being on board. I will forever be grateful to her and hope to continue a friendship long, long after. I could learn a great deal from such a strong woman.
