Role Models Extraordinary Behavior:
Patient Family- Brandi is patient, attentive, fair and much more… not enough room to describe all the wonderful characteristics that she demonstrates.
Staff- She truly has a gift for dealing with the most challenging patients and family members. Brandi builds trust through the display of love and compassion for them. She found a way to connect with this family member even though most others could not do so by just listening to her and not being judgmental. Not only does she care for the patient, but she extends emotional care to the wife, whom is filled with anxiety and worry and leads by example with her staff demonstrating that loving the unlovable is possible.
Creates an environment where attributes of trust, compassion, mutual respect, continued professional development and ethical behavior are modeled and supported:
Patient Family- Brandi, creates an atmosphere of all these elements by her 10 million smiles and her caring spirit.
Staff- She cares for her patients and she is often seen sitting down next to a grieving family member and put her arm around them like they were one of her own. Brandi stops her work no matter how important it may be to help bathe a patient that is in need or to walk a visitor to wherever they need to be when they are lost.
Motivates staff with a shared vision and enthusiasm to achieve better outcomes for themselves and for their patients:
Patient Family- Brandi, listens to family members without demonstrating comments and or non-verbal patterns of communication. She makes you feel as if you are part of her team.
Staff- Brandi cares deeply for her staff. We have an employee whose wife is sick, and he is having problems taking care of her and getting his shifts covered. If he needs to be home with her Brandi bends over backward to help him by finding people to work his shifts and donating her own PDO time when he didn't have any left.
Promotes and enhances the image of nursing within the organization, the community, and the profession:
Patient Family- Brandi, her image alone adds an element of scholarly professionalism because she always displays a professional demeanor. She is the best!!
Staff- She is passionate about taking care of her staff, so they can take great care of their patients. She is very protective of her staff and has had their backs on several occasions with physicians and with aggressive and inappropriate behavior displayed by patients/family members. There have been many times where patients cursed at staff or were inappropriate to her female staff members and she has addressed the patient personally and professional making sure that they understood the boundaries and that their behavior would not be tolerated. She focuses on continual improvement on the unit for appropriate bed placement for admissions and patient flow. She assesses the need for the patient's level of care and telemetry monitor needs and encourages physicians to downgrade. She also helps the physicians by placing the downgrading orders for them to help remove bottlenecks in patient flow. She is often seen going to the ED to assess their holding patients for downgrading opportunities and she rounds on patients in the ED that will be coming to her unit, to ensure that our hospital is exceeding their expectations. She is quick to provide service recovery for those that are unhappy with their stay and is able to turn any patient or family member's frown to a smile.
