Ms. Bobbie was my nurse in postpartum the day I had my baby and the following day. I ended up with a C-section. After I was moved to postpartum, she was very concerned about the amount of blood I was losing, even though most everyone else kept brushing it off. Bobbie kept returning to my room every 20 minutes or so to check, stating that it would be too much if it continued at that rate. Bobbie called other nurses in who told her I was losing a normal amount, and it wasn't a big deal. She was not satisfied with that. She called the doctor who came to check and asked her to keep an eye on it. Ms. Bobbie continued coming in my room very often checking and making sure to keep me cleaned up as best as she could. Bobbie called the same nurses back a second time who still repeated it was "not impressive". Again she called the doctor who removed 300mL of clots and told her to let him know if the bleeding did not stop.
About an hour later, it was even worse. My hematocrit had dropped to 22 and I had to be rushed back for a D&C and 2 units of blood. I'm very thankful for Ms. Bobbie! I feel like it could have been much worse if it was not for her concern and persistence in following her gut even when others were telling her everything was fine!! I believe Bobbie is most definitely deserving of a DAISY Award for keeping me and my baby boy safe and healthy! I used to work at Baptist Desoto and would love to be able to come and give her the award if she receives one!!
