Blake makes an effort every day to provide excellent patient care. He goes above and beyond to not only provide them with excellent medical care but to also ensure they are involved in their care, feel heard, and that their needs matter. Not only does he care for his own patients but shows compassion for whichever patient he comes in contact with. For example, on one occasion we had a patient on the unit who was homeless and was to be discharged that day. He had very limited clothes and it was a very cold winter day. Knowing this, Blake selflessly decided to give him his own personal jacket, even though he later would have to ride home on his bike in the cold without a jacket. By doing this, the patient was able to be on his way and stay warm. Although Blake did not know this patient he saw a need and without hesitation was willing to help. This patient was so grateful that someone would do such an act of kindness for a stranger.
Blake is a kind, compassionate, and selfless person. These are great qualities that he strives to demonstrate every day with every patient. Patients notice this and always comment on his great care. He also inspires other nurses to be involved by leading with his example. He genuinely cares for people and shows this with his actions, such as volunteering at a homeless resource place and was a homeless outreach nurse. He also makes an effort to better his nursing practices and increase his knowledge. He understands the challenges we face as a state and is currently working on proposals to help in those challenging areas, such as our homeless population. He does his part to be involved and makes an effort to use his experience to improve his practice and provide exceptional patient care. It is pleasure to have such a great nurse as part of the Presbyterian team.
