Blake embodies the traits of professionalism, compassion, and excellence every day that he is working in the CVICU. When rounding any day in CVICU, you can always count on him giving quality care to his patients and ensuring that all prevention interventions are in place. He further exemplified his patient centered care and expertise when called to assist the PICU with a patient.

The PICU transport team had been called to transport an eight year old post cardiac/respiratory arrest. Once the PICU team was able to stabilize the patient, they called back to MCCG to give report and suggested that this patient would be a good candidate for therapeutic hypothermia. The PICU staff had only performed this treatment using the Zoll Thermoquard on one other occasion which occurred over one year prior; so the staff knew that they would need assistance performing this complex treatment.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist who usually assisted with the procedure was away from the facility and time was of the essence for this patient. PICU staff knew that the CVICU staff had expertise and experience performing this therapy so the PICU Director called CVICU for help. The Nurse Manager and the entire CVICU staff worked together to enable one of their nurses to promptly go to the PICU to assist with this complex intervention. Blake assisted PICU staff with setting up the equipment, instructing on the use of the equipment, monitoring/management of the patient, care and use of the line, and thoroughly covering the documentation/paperwork portion of this treatment. He made sure that the patient was safe and that the nursing staff was comfortable with the process. He clearly demonstrated that he was an expert RN and a team player - the PICU staff would not have been able to perform this treatment without his willing assistance.

This is but one example of how our DAISY Honoree, Blake Ennis demonstrates commitment to patients and to the profession of nursing. He is truly an extraordinary RN who exemplifies professional excellence and compassion that extends beyond what is commonplace. He is an asset to the CVICU and the Medical Center of Central Georgia.
