The Geriatric/Medical unit had a patient who had been with them for more than 100 days. The staff including nurses, PT/OT, Care Management and nursing students helped this patient and his son celebrate the patient's birthday. Mindy Greenrod was identified as the lead for this activity but everyone on the unit pitched in with ideas and help.
The staff decorated his room, provided a cake, and sang Happy Birthday. They took a picture of the patient and his son and then gave the framed picture to the patient as a gift. They also took the patient outside for lunch - something he requested. The patient was very happy and cried because he was so appreciative of the unit celebrating his birthday with him and his son.
