Losing a loved one is very hard, especially having a fetal demise at 38 weeks 6 days, after trying to conceive for 5 long years. Losing my rainbow baby, I felt empty and depressed. Just when I felt like I couldn't go as my world seemed like it had ended, Bettina stood right by my side throughout the night offering a comforting word, a touch, a shoulder to cry on or just being there holding my hand. Even when it seemed the tears would not stop, Bettina reached out to a close family friend and coworker to help in the comforting process. I was deeply touched by her sincerity, empathy, and professionalism. She has a heart of gold. If there was one thing that helped me get through my hospital stay, it was that touch of kindness and thoughtfulness that she displayed and I will never forget. She gave me a gift to cheer me up, a tear bottle, which was given to her by her grandmother. Bettina said to me, "I went home and could not stop thinking about you last night. I am giving this to you, but only tears of joy should be collected in this bottle." To this day that bottle is kept by my bedside. That little gesture sprang forth a well of hopefulness within and serves as a timely reminder in my down days to stay positive and find the strength within. Thank you, Bettina, you are a source of strength and inspiration. You helped and supported me through my darkest moments and I will never forget your kindness. A true nurse you are, care from the heart.
