Bernadette is a caring and compassionate nurse who always takes care of her patients. An example of this is how she took care of her patient yesterday. She had a laboring mom who was being induced for blood pressures. Not only was she managing the blood pressures she was also aware of a situation before it worsened. After the doctor broke the patient's amniotic sac, she noticed a baseline change in the baby's heart rate. She immediately notified the doctor and the doctor found a prolapsed cord which is an emergency situation. The OR in L&D was being used so the C-section had to be done in the main OR. She used her resources and worked with her teammates to get her patient to the main OR and have a healthy baby and kept her mom calm. She used STAR (Stop, Think, Act, Review) to recognize a potential problem and address it before a bad outcome occurred. She communicated clearly her needs to the MD and other staff members. She had a questioning attitude when noticing the change in the baseline of the baby's heartbeat. She used ARCC (Ask a question, make a Request, voice a Concern, use chain of Command) by asking the doctor to come, requesting that he evaluate the patient, having true concern and voicing it. Because of Bernadette, yesterday we had a successful delivery and a happy mom and family with a sweet baby girl who did not have to be transferred or have a worse outcome. This care is something that Bernadette provides for all of her patients. She takes extra special care of each of them and never asks for anything in return.

I have worked with Bernadette with almost 11 years. In the last 11 years Bernadette and I have seen a lot of great moments helping mothers bring their infants into the world and we have also been through a lot of emergency situations together. For years, we solely worked together on night shift and we could finish each others' sentences and know what each other was thinking without saying anything. If one of us needed something, the other had already done it. That kind of teamwork is hard to find. Not only is Bernadette a friend outside of work, she is also a team player at work. She has defined the "never leave your wingman" mentality and always helps all that she can during her shift and after her shift ends. She has changed her shifts more than I can count to help others have off the days they need or to help cover the unit. She is one of the most humble people I know and loves her coworkers and her patients. SAMC would not be the same if she didn't work here. She is a DAISY Nurse for the care she gives to her patients and fellow employees.

Bernadette is one of those nurses whom everyone enjoys working with. She is a hard worker, easy to get along with and eager to help others. Her calming mannerism is a great asset for out of control laboring patients. She is caring and fun to be around. The integration of Epic at our facility just about pushed her over the edge, because it was so different than the way charting was in the labor room, but she has worked at mastering it. She is a great team player. She jumps in to assist whenever she can. She has a positive attitude and is a wonderful asset to the staff. She is flexible and willing to change schedules to accommodate the unit when necessary. Bernadette is working on her BSN degree now. She was not required to, but wanted to improve and grow as a nurse. We love Bernadette and are glad she is part of our team!
