My mother was admitted to AHN Forbes Hospital for emergency surgery and spent time in ICU afterward. After ICU she was transferred to the 6th-floor post-surgical area where all of the staff were remarkable in caring for her, but I truly feel Ben and Ian rose to a phenomenal status. My mom seemed to be adjusting to the ileostomy and the changes this would make in her day to day life, but then she started to feel overwhelmed and began to refuse to eat. She was discharged to the Willows for rehab but deteriorated and was brought back to AHN Forbes. Throughout both of her stays, Ben and Ian cared for her and went above and beyond in all their dealings with her. As a team, they were on top of every aspect of her care. They realized my mom had a sense of humor and made her smile and laugh whenever they were in the room, even when it was to perform the unpleasant tasks associated with her surgery. When Mom refused to listen to us, her family, Ben and Ian would sit and talk to her and make her see that her best interest was all that we had in our hearts. They were able to get her to eat and drink when she refused for us and because of their care we were able to spend more time with her. Mom was released to the Willows for the 2nd time, but sadly Mom did succumb to all that happened and passed. We tell folks Mom died of a broken heart because our Dad had to move to an Alzheimer's Care facility in June and he was the love of her life. Ben and Ian heard many stories about the life Mom and Dad had before she could no longer care for Dad at home, and they listened when Mom wanted to talk about him. More than once I walked into her room and one of them would be holding her hand assuring her it was going to be alright. These two exceptional men will forever remain in my heart as the dream team who cared for Mom.
