My mother suffered a terrible accident, which required the intervention of ER. Shortly thereafter, she was transferred to ICU. The ICU team was great in providing care and were able to stabilize my mother. Coping with multiple facial fractures, a fractured C2 in her neck, an uncomfortable neck brace, facial lacerations and stitches, my mother was in significant pain and afraid. Then Becca entered our world. By this time my mother struggled to swallow and her pain scale had increased. Additionally, my mother was producing a large amount of phlegm, which was causing her to choke. Having been by my mother's side since this accident, I made observations that may improve her comfort level. Becca was so empathic and used active listening skills to provide suggestions to my mother. Through her efforts, Becca successfully used the addition of a decongestant, which reduced the choking. Becca also advocated for my mother's physical comfort with a change in beds then eventually advocated for a private room which greatly reduced my mother's anxiety.
Becca's compassion and willingness to heal others are gifts she bestows on the patients. Becca's ability to establish patient rapport, aids in the ongoing treatment and recovery process. Furthermore, I observed Becca working with the student nurse assigned to my mother. Becca's patience and ability to convey directives will ensure that any student nurses assigned to her will grow and develop into a great nurse. On behalf of my mother and our family, I thank Becca and Blessing Hospital for the amazing healthcare, top notch professionalism and patient centered service. Your efforts turned a very scary and painful experience into a healing and caring one. Becca, you have found your place in the professional world. You have an amazing spirit. Thank you for your selfless acts of kindness and care bestowed on my mother.
