My mother had hip surgery very near Christmas and passed away shortly after. She was 95-years-old, so you can imagine how difficult it was to lose her. When we realized hospice was coming in and we would be taking her off the machines and giving pain medicine to ease her end of life, it was unbearable for me. My crying was uncontrollable really, and when I left the room to go down the hall, Barbara followed me. I couldn't stop crying and she was there to console me, pray for me, and speak words of comfort. She was my angel that day. I couldn't have gotten through that time without her.
Barbara encouraged me to go back to my mother's room and be there with my twin sister because she said I would regret it later if I wasn't there. It's now nearly 3 weeks later, and Barbara was right. I am glad I was there for my mother as she slipped from this world into the next. Barbara was exceptional. She had other things to do that night, but she chose to stay with me in that time of tremendous and overwhelming grief. She was my angel. I will never forget her and the vital role she played in helping our family that evening. Peace came and angels came that night.
Everyone working on the 8th floor during that weekend were all wonderful. They truly were, and if l could give you all their names and honor them all, I would. Barbara stood out even from the wonderful. Our family wants to say thank you!
