My 5-year-old daughter L had never been hospitalized. L had not even been this sick, ever! It was pretty traumatic for a 5yr old to go not only from one hospital ER to another but it's extremely traumatic when they have to change hospitals by way of an ambulance ride. Upon arriving to Le Bonheur, L was greeted on the floor by Ms. Barbara. She greeted us with a smile and a warm kind voice. My daughter is very guarded when it comes to strangers. While being hooked up to so many lines and oxygen tubing, Ms. Barbara was in and out of our room often. She never once looked frustrated or aggravated. It was a pretty busy 1st night and 2nd night for us here. Ms. Barbara was L's nurse those 2 nights. By the beginning of the 2nd night, Ms. Barb (as she had asked L to call her) had won my daughter over. She cared for L and showed genuine compassion. She cared about things L cared about. She even went out of her way to learn L's stuffed animal's name to better connect with her. L just lit up and loved talking about LuluLiddy with Ms. Barb. Not only did she make my baby girl feel safe and comfortable, but Ms. Barb also went out of the way to do the little things like getting popsicles and getting laundry pods (instead of just saying "oh you can go down the hall and get them"). I'm extremely grateful to the Good Lord above for blessing us with a caring, loving and compassionate nurse like Ms. Barb.
