Barbara Dement is a very compassionate and caring LPN who always gives 100% to her patients and team members due to her high moral principles and standards. She was instrumental in identifying a significant decrease in the number of completed mammogram reports for approximately 4-6 months. After completing a comprehensive investigation, she determined that many women veterans had fallen through the cracks when they were transferred into the Choice referral process. These women had received their referral letter but were unable to schedule an appointment due to contact information discrepancies provided on the referral letter. Today, she independently follows these women to ensure that they receive the care they need.
Barbara is a strong advocate for her patients and team members. Recently, her high standards were displayed when she went the extra mile to ensure that each patient's chart was up to date. When she noted that the daily task of downloading the digital photos was incomplete she quickly corrected the discrepancy. Even though she wasn't assigned to this clinic this week, she stayed late to download the week's digital photos into the appropriate patient's chart and to update the clinic's pathology tracker. Due to her pro-activeness and dedication to detail, she identified a mislabeled specimen and immediately implemented the appropriate corrective action to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Barbara respectfully serves as the subject matter expert for Women's Health and Dermatology clinic. She continuously mentors staff members to the roles and responsibilities within the GYN clinic enforcing the continuity, streamlining the clinics workflow and procedural competencies. She perpetually monitors the expiration dates on the GYN and Dermatology equipment enforcing the preventive maintenance standards and compliance despite that there are no providers in these clinics. She is a valuable and flexible resource that leadership highly depends on due to her experience. She has been used extensively in Primary Care and Telehealth during staffing shortages as well as Specialty. Her experience allows her to adjust quickly and efficiently into any clinic environment.
Barbara demonstrates/displays high standards of excellence for patient care by maintaining her annual competencies in the entire Specialty and the Primary Care Clinics. She has been instrumental in the development of the pathology trackers. These trackers are utilized by Minor Procedures, Women's Health, and Perry Outpatient Community Based Center.
