It is difficult to pick a specific situation in which Barb Decker demonstrated the I CARE principles because Barb exemplifies the VA's I CARE philosophy. Her dedication to our Veterans is apparent in her every interaction, and meeting their needs is her priority. Barb strives to make the CLC feel like home to vets, their family, and staff alike. She even decorates the unit for every holiday. The CLC Veterans truly adore her, and vice versa.
Barb is also incredibly supportive of fellow employees. She is quick to jump in and help others where needed, and she does it with a smile. For the therapy team on an inpatient rehab unit, success is dependent on the backing of nursing services. We deliver the best care when nursing is committed to the rehab process and encourages vets to get moving. Barb is the perfect mix of compassion, and take no excuses, that our patients need.
Barb is an incredibly hard worker and an excellent nurse. It is rare to see her sitting down at all throughout the day. Her energy and attitude inspire me and everyone in our unit, I would venture to say. Barb is one of the people that make our CLC the success it is and we're so fortunate to have her on board.
