Averil provided excellent patient care and throughout the extremely distressing and unfamiliar case, she remained professional and provide care for a vulnerable adult which was exemplary.
Averil went over and above in her nursing duties when looking after a young adult with mental and physical disabilities. She was the admitting nurse on the unit and cared for the patient for the following 2 shifts building up a rapport with the patient and her mother. This was a very complex admission that involved safeguarding, the Learning Disability team, and many other agencies.
Averil remained patient throughout the admission of the patient. Due to the complexities of the admission, Averil volunteered to attend the ward on her day off to join a 'teams' meeting so that she could provide valuable information to the care agencies about the care delivered to the patient.
The patient was extremely ill and I was thought she may not survive the weekend so Averil again said she would come into work again at the weekend on her days off, to provide care for the patient in her final days of life, so that her care could be consistent and provided by a familiar face.
The patient passed away towards the end of Averil's shift and she stayed after her shift to provide last offices to the patient.
Averil provided excellent patient care and throughout the extremely distressing and unfamiliar case, she remained professional and provide care for a vulnerable adult which was exemplary.
We are so lucky to have such a caring, thoughtful and respectful nurse who treats her patients with care and compassion and goes the extra mile to ensure the patients get the best possible care and so that an investigation could be consistent with reliable evidence given.
