Our daughter was med-flighted to UVA NICU. When my husband and I arrived, we were greeted by Ashley, who was assigned to our daughter. We were overwhelmed, emotional, tired and worried. Ashley welcomed us with a smile and gave us detailed information on our daughter and her current care. She got us acclimated with UVA and everything we would need to know about her stay including introducing us to some of the doctors, working on getting us a place to stay, what resources we had while there and so much more. She gave us hope and hospitality. We know she stayed after her shift ended to get us set up in the rooming-in room, so we had a close (and easy) place to stay. We felt that she went beyond her normal duties that evening to help us. Additionally, throughout our daughter's stay, we loved having Ashley as her nurse. She was always upbeat, positive, driven, and personal to her patients. It was easy to tell she was a team player with the other nurses in the pod as well.
We feel like our daughter was truly "cared" for by Ashley, not just in her assigned duties as a nurse but she made it more personal. She would talk to our daughter while caring for her, call her by name and really got to know our little baby's personality. She was very inclusive to us, as parents. We always felt welcomed and assured that our daughter was in caring and trusted hands.
