Ashley's able to get him to relax, laugh and open up about his concerns/fears of the upcoming procedures.
To sight a specific situation would be every interaction we had with Ashley. It is obvious she takes the code of ethics of nursing very seriously. She is an exceptional advocate for her patient and family needs. She takes the extra time to listen. She is very willing to answer questions to help her patient understand an upcoming procedure, medication change, or treatment plan change.
When M was going to surgery to have his wound cleaned and wound vac placed, she was very helpful to give us information. If she doesn't know the answers, she will find them. M has been hospitalized for many days and weeks on end and as you can imagine, he has had a roller coaster of emotion/frustration. A lot of time these emotions and fears are misunderstood and taken as being grumpy or mean. Ashley identified this and took the time to talk with M and his wife about their grandchildren, children, hobbies, likes, and dislikes. In doing so she connected with M on a different level. She's able to get him to relax, laugh, and open up about his concerns/fears of the upcoming procedures. When I asked him during a phone call about how his day was going, he replied, "Today is much better, I have that awesome nurse Ashley again. Even though I'm in pain and stuck here without my family, that nurse takes care of me like my daughter would and things just go much better."
Overall, Ashley has outshined all the amazing staff here. It is obvious to us that as a whole Spectrum staff are dedicated to their job and their patients. Ashley Albert is one of the brightest of all the starts here on 6-North. Thanks for being an amazing nurse!
